Domestic building dispute resolution Victoria (DBDRV)
This is a service provided by the Victorian Building Authority as the initial step that must be taken before parties to a domestic building contract can commence proceedings at VCAT.
Preparation for DBDRV should be as thorough as the preparation for a dispute at VCAT.
There is no limit on the value of any dispute that goes to DBDRV. You may engage lawyers who can help you prepare for the process, however, DBDRV discourages lawyers from taking part in the process. That being said, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the dispute resolution process and how to present your position and therefore it is highly recommended that you seek advice from a lawyer to assist you in collating the relevant documents, coach you in presenting your case and advise you on your prospects of success.
DBDRV handles disputes between the owner of a property, the builder and/or surveyor. It does not handle disputes between commercial contractors.
To commence the process, you must first complete the online application form and provide additional documents as requested - these may be requested at a later date.
We can help you prepare the application.
